I had a “double header” of startup presentations this week. I attended the Web Startup Group gathering last night and got to listen to a wide variety of ideas.
The opening Biz Tech talk was given by Kirk Ouimet. He spoke about SMS, the growing influence that it has and the costs that are associated with it. Kevin has produced two simple but useful sites for sending regular messages to inform his target market. Based on the data that he presented this evening the group of entrepreneurs had ‘texting’ in the front of their minds for the remainder of the presentations. Well done Kirk.
The Fast Pitches:
- ldsmissions.com was presented by Matt Smith. This is a site that he created years ago and has not given much attention recently. NEED: brainstorm on quick wins for growing the sites value.
- FriendViews was presented by Jeff Bennion. I need permission and more information to be able to share this idea forward.
- One Card to Rule Them All was presented by Jeff Schwarting.I need permission and more information to be able to share this idea forward.
- Finally Bronzeberry was presented by Garret Gee. This is a great idea to bring Students, Professors, and Businesses together in a way that will improve education, produce better employees, and increase profits for business. NEED: Site developer (PHP).
The meeting next entered the “Open Pitch” phase where anyone could spend 1 minute to present an idea. This evening there were a significant number of ideas. I will present briefly the highlights here:
- Matthew.B.Stapleton [ at ] Gmail wants to bring a community together that is currently using 1970s bulletin boards and ad hoc discussion groups. NEED: web developer
- GradeMyWedding presented their concept for helping consumers make the wedding planning process more smooth. Need: web developer
- Giftelligence has an idea for helping you find just the right gift to give to a friend.
- Jason Izitt has two projects that he presented. One was about iPhone development and another was BigWaveProductions. NEED: For both of these he is looking for a LAMP developer. Contact: sales@izatt.com
- The TippingBucket also made a fast pitch for a Developer/Technical Director.
Another great evening of ideas and energy. Two in one week was a great way to stir up some creativity and connections. Best of luck to all these ventures!
