This was a compelling video relating to innovation in the market. It is important for companies, especially startups, to have an answer to the question, “why.” The answers of “how” and “what” can follow on after that.

, Simon Sinek introduces his “golden circle” concept. He then provides a few examples of companies and people that demonstrate this principle. Having an answer to “why” and focusing on that is what empowers or more importantly energizes an organization and attracts others to come to it.

As part of this presentation Simon applies his circle to human biology as well. This, in brief, is about addressing deep loyalties and feelings within the internal elements of the brain. When you tap in to the core of people, you can significantly influence their behavior as a customer as well as an employee. “The goal is not to hire people because they can do a job, but to hire people who believe what you believe.”

If an organization wants to achieve significant adoption of its products and grow within the marketplace, then it needs to be ready to address these concerns as framed by Simon. First it needs to answer the deepest question of “why” should I care about you and your products. Then the company can move on to “what” products they provide to the market, and “how” it is different from the competition.
